Eclectic Austin Nursery

The project:

When designing a nursery for my oldest son, I aimed to create a space that was fun, full of character, and capable of growing with him rather than being confined to his baby era. I chose an Austin-inspired design, layering meaningful touches, patterns, textures, and colors to bring the concept to life. To enhance the room, I created a wall mural and three custom mixed-media art pieces.

The art pieces were crafted from repurposed materials: the sunset background of the cactus was made from recycled window blinds, the cactus frame was found discarded on a curb, and the wood slats in the USA piece were remnants from a home remodel. For the mural, I replicated the famous “Hi, How Are You?” artwork by Austin musician and artist Daniel Johnston, which sits across from The University of Texas at Austin campus. (This mural was created purely for personal reasons, not for profit or promotion.)

Additional creative touches included custom shelves, a refinished dresser from Craigslist, and a hand-painted Bobcat gifted to my husband for his college graduation. I share these additional elements to highlight my belief that art is meant to be part of a collective story, not just an isolated aesthetic.
